SENATOR MCCAIN CONTINUES HIS SUPPORT OF THE
CONGRESSIONAL MILITARY AIRFARE RESOLUTION
H.R. 2115, SECTION 427
San Ramon, California, March 7, 2006. Today, the Blue Star Moms wish to thank Senator John McCain (AZ) for contacting various U.S. airlines and reminding them of the continuing congressional resolution in support of fair military airfares. Congress passed this resolution in December 2003 and which read in part as follows:
(b) SENSE OF CONGRESS - It is the sense of Congress that each
United States air carrier should -
- establish for all members of the Armed Forces on active duty reduced airfares that are comparable to the lowest airfare for ticketed
flights; and
- offer flexible terms that allow members of the Armed Forces on active duty to purchase, modify, or cancel tickets without time restrictions, fees and penalties.
The Blue Star Moms continue to work with all airlines relative to this resolution and obtain mixed results. Senator McCain applauds a number of airlines for their responsiveness to the resolution. The Blue Star Moms offer their sincere thanks to the airlines that give attention to the resolution. We support these airlines and advise our returning troops of the airlinesŐ efforts on their behalf. The Blue Star Moms also intend to maintain contact with other U.S. flag carriers in the hope that improving industry conditions will enable them to support the congressional resolution.
Blue Star Moms, a chapter of Blue Star Mothers of America, is a support and service group in the San Francisco East Bay Area. We are proud parents of sons and daughters serving in the United States military. Blue Star Moms is a non-partisan, non-sectarian and non-profit group. The mission of our group is to:
- Support fellow Blue Star members and their sons and daughters who are serving or have served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America;
- Share educational information to benefit the members and their families;
- Support our military personnel through various service activities;
- Support VeteranŐs organizations, activities and events; and
- Promote causes that will benefit military personnel through a Military Advocacy Program.
